On the 15th of March, 1987, the well-known American newspaper, The Washington Post, published a list of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world. The evaluation of this selection included mainly the beauty and exotic aspects of the locality. To the general surprise of the Brazilians, on the top of the list was an unknown beach on the eastern coast of Ceara and with a really strange name: Jericoacoara.
